What is Portraits of Peel 2019?

Portraits of Peel 2019 is an online database that describes the socioeconomic characteristics of different federal electoral districts (FED) in Ontario. It uses data from the 2016 Census of Canada.

What Kinds of Information Are Provided in Portraits of Peel 2019?

  • Each document is a summary of social and economic characteristics of a specific geographic area of Ontario by federal electoral district level.
  • 14 Indicators include: Population, Households, Aboriginal Peoples, Couple Families, Lone Parent Families, People Living Alone, Median After-tax Income, Unemployment Rate, Postsecondary Degrees, People Living in Poverty, Rented Households, Population Spending 30% or More of Its Income on Housing, Seniors and Recent Immigrants from 2011-2016.
  • Geographical Areas: Canada, Ontario, City of Toronto, Peel Region, City of Mississauga, City of Brampton,Town of Caledon and Selected 121 Federal Electoral Districts in Ontario.
Who is the Primary Audience for Portraits of Peel 2019?

Portraits of Peel 2019 has been prepared primarily for non-profit human service agencies in Ontario Region. The majority of these agencies are direct service agencies with limited resources for population research. However, one of their major needs is for reliable information on the population of Ontario and its federal electoral districts, in order to plan, market and deliver services to different groups within that population. Portraits of Peel 2019 provides them with this information.

Although written primarily for human service agencies, Portraits of Peel 2019 can be of value for funders of human services, civil servants, elected politicians and businesses in Ontario Region. The online database provides these parties with a statistically reliable picture of the characteristics of different geographic areas of Ontario.
